I have been using Lumion since 2013 and there are many reasons why I love Lumion, but there are also some reasons why I do not like it so much and have moved to Unity 3D.
The good about Lumion:
It is easy to use.
There are a lot of options for the lights and the atmosphere.
There are a lot of assets to design the tries, plants, flowers, stones, people, animals.
It is easy to export from Sketchup into Lumion.
The bad about Lumion:
You need a very good graphic card and a very good memory.
Even with an Alienware, the software was slow.
The pro version which I was using is over $3,000.
The final rendering can take over 8 hours for 15 minutes video.
The edition is lacking of precision and it is easy to miss some details before rendering. That may result in a lack of time.
It is difficult to make a quick project with Lumion due to the rendering time and the cost of the time must be cheap otherwise the project is too costly.
The rendering in Lumion cannot be exported on other softwares.
Below are some projects I have designed with Lumion. When starting using Lumion, the feeling is really good. The rendering is realistic and quite easy to learn. After some design on various projects, I felt the limitation of the software. Still, it can sometimes be a real good investment on some large projects with repetitive tasks.
Eima BLANK is a designer and a rewarded entrepreneur who started a career as an ethnographer in 1992, was graduated in architecture in 1995 and is now experiencing her passions as a carpenter and a craft woman. She has directed wood construction projects from 2010 to 2015. She is the author of several books and studies about wood construction and the economy of forestry. She has also won several concourses for her innovations on wood and fabric construction.
Her drawings entered an army museum for her sarcastic humor, she has a model house in another museum and she is a member of the ADAGP and the ARS for the management of her artist and designer rights. She is also an occasional cartoonist, what she carries on her smile.
