The draft of the project

This is the beginning of a long story. I have set up the foundations of the Las Vegas map with a terrain, a relief and the picture of the map of Las Vegas. I have also set up the flying soap box as my main character. The soap box will become a sophisticated design typical of Las Vegas. There are many challenges to come:

  • On flying mode, I do not want to see the details of the map, but have a global view with main axis. I also want to see at a glance where the concepts projects are and where are the different categories of prospects.
  • When flying very close to the land, I want to see details at a glance, like a golfer on a course. If I see anything interesting, I must be able to walk like a giant on the map.
  • This means that if I can fly, I can walk too and be scaled like a giant walking on the map. When I bend to look at the soil, I must be able to see details as if, I would sit in the room with the printed map on the soil.
  • I must be able to access any options any time to see the statistics of the map. I must be able to see also the concept projects and make the difference between a concept project and an add.
  • To design a map with different scales of details might take a lot of resources. While the main map of Las Vegas is scaled 1:5000, I must not loose any details from its conversion into the game.
To design the draft of the game, I have only used QGIS, Photoshop and Unity. I explain all the challenges and solutions on each pages of the software. The soap box is piloted with four arrows, but there are not yet any controls of the flight. This will come last after I have fixed the design of the terrain and while the draft of the main character is set up, maybe, a funny flying flamingo.

The terrain is challenging. When I import the height of the mountains from satellite maps, there are a lot of mistakes we can from Google Earth. When we live in Las Vegas, we can see that there are too many reliefs on the satellite maps while the real mountains are more "soft". I explain those problems here. As a solution, I will use my artistic skills to design the mountains and correct the satellite view. I don't need an accurate view of the mountain with all the details, but I need to feel that they are real, that the horizon seen from Las Vegas is the good one.

The terrain for now has been imported from satellite view and cleaned slightly to have a flat map of the city. I will only draw the relief of the 104 parks of Las Vegas and the many green accommodations owned by the casinos. The purpose of this project is to show the green side of Las Vegas, the challenges of the city, the solutions, what we can change, improve, and create to do more environmental friendly actions. I hope you like it. Don't forget to share this post and support us with your comments.
